This 1-day Summer Moorland Walking Leader assessment course is for those who have completed the related SWML Summer moorland leader training course and gained the necessary experience in walking and leading groups on the moors of the South West, such as Dartmoor and Brecon Beacons.
Successful completion of this assessment enables the candidate to lead groups on moorland walks within the South West counties, in summer conditions. This award is part of the South West Moorland Leader (SWML) training scheme.
Pre-requisites for this assessment
Method of Assessment
As a candidate you will be required to demonstrate effective group leadership during a walk in summer conditions, to show competence in the relevant personal skills set out within the summer moorland leader training syllabus and have successfully completed the assessment over a period of 8 hours.
You will also be required to demonstrate competence in poor visibility navigation to the standard of the National Navigation Award Scheme (NNAS) Silver level.
As part of the assessment you be required to complete an assessed written task, either in advance of, or as part of the practical assessment day. The time required for this is in addition to the 8-hour practical examination.
