Summer Moorland Camping Endorsement Assessment

undefinedThis 2-day Summer Moorland Camping Endorsement assessment is intended for those wishing to upgrade their summer moorland walking leader award to enable them to lead overnight expeditions in remote locations on open moorland terrain.

The assessment will involve an overnight camp on open moorland where you will need to demonstrate appropriate knowledge of remote camping equipment and camp supervision skills.

This award is part of the South West Moorland Leader (SWML) training scheme and successful completion allows holders of the award to operate in areas such as Dartmoor and Brecon Beacons. It is ideally suited to leaders involved with Ten Tors or Duke of Edinburgh leadership (D of E).

Pre-requisites for this assessment course

  1. Minimum age of 18
  2. Summer Moorland Leader Assessment
  3. Minimum of 8 nights remote camping in different locations including 2 nights group leadership/assistant leadership experience
  4. Pre submission of log book experience plus satisfactory completion of risk assessment, route card and home study paper

Method of Assessment

Candidates will be required to demonstrate effective group leadership during a walk including an overnight camp in a remote location in summer conditions, and to show competence in the relevant personal skills. In addition an assessed written paper will need to be completed either in advance or on the day of assessment.
