We really will start with the basics, such as setting up your bike for the trail, how to use your brakes and gears effectively and how to shift your weight to control your bike.
There is no prior knowledge expected from you or whoever you bring a long. We will adapt the whole day to your needs and provide friendly coaching all along the trail. We will also teach you basic bike maintenance and trail-side repairs if you'd like to learn.
If it looks like you're ready for the next level then we can start introducing more technical skills like; how to corner without losing speed, taking drop-offs, berms, bumps and humps.
You can book as many days as you choose and we can visit a new trail or area every day to suit your progression.
We can provide courses for any number of days but a one day course is ideal to learn or brush up on the basic skills needed to get you going with your mountain biking.

We see that operating with a small instructor to client ratio is the safest and quickest way to learn the essential skills required to remain safe on the hill. That is why we only work to a maximum of 1:5 Instructor:Client.
You will need your own mountain bike and helmet for this course however should you need to hire one of our bikes then please let us know when you book.
The weather cannot necessarily be predicted so please bring comfortable clothing that will keep you warm and reasonably dry in most weathers. We also recommend bringing a small rucksack with additional spare layers, a flask, drink and lunch.
You can book onto the Introduction to Mountain Biking Course by contacting Dougie Bruce. On agreeing a date and venue we will ask you to complete an application form and medical questionnaire. Please note that all participants will need to complete this form.
