We see that operating with a small instructor to client ratio is the safest and quickest way to learn the essential skills required to remain safe on the hill. That is why we only work to a maximum of 1:6 Instructor:Client.
The weather cannot necessarily be predicted so please bring suitable clothing that will keep you warm and dry in most weathers. We will be navigating onto the open moorland as part of this course and therefore you should arrive with warm layers, waterproof clothing and walking boots. We also recommend bringing a small rucksack with additional spare layers, a flask, drink and lunch.
We will provide you a map and compass for the duration of the course.
Providing that you feel fit enough to walk up to ten kilometres over the course of the day then you probably are in good enough condition to attend the course. Be aware that some of the ground will be uneven and so a pair of walking poles may be of benefit to some.
We would appreciate that you confidentially inform us of any injuries or pre-existing medical conditions that may affect your ability to participate on the day.
You and all the other participants can record any pre-existing medical conditions onto the course application form below and verbally update your instructor on the day should anything change. This information will help the instructor make suitable route choice to enable you to participate and improve your overall enjoyment of the course for everyone.
You can book onto the Introduction to Moorland Navigation Course by contacting the Delaware Outdoor Education Centre directly or by completing the attached form link below and returning by email or post. Please note that all participants will need to complete this form.
