All offsite educational visits require Headteacher/Youth Service Manager approval before they can proceed. However due to the nature and variety of some off-site visits it is strongly recommended that professional advice is sought by schools planning to take their students on a trip, that is anything of other than ordinary.
To clarify, it is a Local Authority requirement that any school or youth service trip or Educational Visit (EV) involving one or more of the following categories, should be endorsed by the Local Authority before proceeding:
Cornwall Outdoors provides a highly respected educational visits advisory service for all schools in Cornwall that have signed up to our service level agreement. The service includes an essential EV training course for your staff and a separate and on-going educational visits application service (see below).
On application we are able to look at your plans, risk assessments and activity providers list, to check that all necessary measures and controls have been put in place to ensure the safety of the students and staff involved. We can then endorse your trip and offer any additional advice deemed appropriate. If you would like to join up to our service level agreement please contact us.
We now have an online system for completing the Educational Visit form. Your EVC should know how to access and use this system. Link to the database is https://db.cornwall.gov.uk/educationalvisits
Notification for foreign visits should be submitted 3 months before departure and other visits 2 months before.
Cornwall Outdoor Safety Policy - Policy document for the Management of Off-Site Visits and Outdoor Learning.
Every school must have a designated Educational Visit Coordinator (EVC ) who has completed the local authority training. This designated EVC can advise leaders in all aspects of planning and organising a visit. For details of our full day EVC training please access the courses on-line booking system www.cornwalllearningonline.co.uk. Course code for the full one-day training course for Educational Visit Coordinators is CLO9.
In line with Cornwall Council policy and national requirements EVCs are required to re-validate their training every 3 years in order to demonstrate currency in their role. If you have not completed the full EVC training in the last 3 years please access our online booking system www.cornwalllearningonline.co.uk and book onto the next available EVC re-validation course. Please search for course code CLO25.
