Fun and Learning at Porthpean Outdoor Education Centre
Situated just outside of St. Austell, Cornwall, Porthpean Outdoor Education Centre is an ideal place to get children and adult groups to develop team-building spirit and spark an interest in outdoor pursuits. The Centre encourages its guests to explore the great outdoors with activities that allow them to experience the sights at sea and in the countryside. The Centre offers a wide range of water and land based educational activities that aim to develop every participant’s interest in physical and mental activities.
Porthpean OE Centre believes that to truly enjoy and be productive as a group, different activities should be experienced and one day is not enough to get to do them all. While some groups do opt for a day visit, the Centre invites groups to go for residential stays that can be booked from three very convenient schedules:
Option A: Monday to Friday (5days/4nights) which includes accommodation, full catering, 3 full activity days, 2 half activity days and 3 evening activities.
Option B: Monday to Wednesday or Wednesday to Friday (3days/2nights) which includes accommodation, full catering, 1 full activity day and 2 half activity days Option C: Weekend (Friday evening to Sunday afternoon) which includes accommodation, full catering, and activity days which may be booked subject to availability.
The Centre has 5 residential villages which can accommodate 36 guests and 4 staff members in each. The tents have mattresses and floorboards to ensure comfort without losing the sense of being outdoors. Furthermore, building facilities including the staff lounge, dining hall, toilet and shower blocks, drying room and First Aid room surround the Centre to assist guests of their needs.
The Porthpean Outdoor Education Centre boasts indoor and outdoor facilities that groups can include in their schedule of activities. Typical visitors to the Centre include schools that want to encourage their students to engage in activities that will enrich their mental and physical skills.
The well-trained staff at the Centre are experts at organising group events. Upon confirmation of booking, groups can expect a detailed schedule of activities that the staff suggest for the group. Not only are they able to give instructions, but they are also on hand to give assistance to groups and guide them as they navigate the centre, especially during outdoor activities.
Most schools who book residential stays try to maximise their time whilst at the Centre. Starting with the indoor climbing wall, which is very popular among visitors, guests can flex their muscles and take turns to reach the top of the wall while gaining a sense of accomplishment. Aside from climbing, other popular activities that schools include in their schedule are archery, high ropes, and a beach day. Water sports such as canoeing and kayaking are available as well for groups that are more interested in exploring the coast.
The Porthpean OE Centre accepts bookings all year round. More than a camp site, the Centre offers its visitors activities to satisfy their outdoor pursuits. The place does not only open itself to schools but also to activity-seeking groups who would like to have alternative ways to relax while enjoying their time with friends and colleagues.
