My experience goes back to 1979 when I started working as an instructor in an Outdoor Centre in Derbyshire. From there I went to do teacher training which included Outdoor Education. After graduating I worked for about a year in an Outdoor Centre on the edge of the Lake District where I worked with both adults and children who had a wide range of disabilities. I then started teaching in a primary school in Leicestershire where in 1989 I worked in a Primary School in Auckland New Zealand. In 1992 I moved to Cornwall to take up a post as Deputy Head in a Primary School. In 1996 I became Headteacher of a Primary School. In 2010 I retired from headship. I joined Cornwall Outdoors in April 2011.
I have been involved with climbing and Mountaineering since I was a teenager, since then I have climbed in Scotland, Wales, the Lake District, The Peak District, the high Alps and the Pyranees.
I qualified as an Inland Kayak Instructor in 1982 and a level 4 Open Canoe Coach over 10 years ago. I have paddled extensively in England, Scotland and Wales. I have also paddled in France.
I am a keen sailor and have sailed across the channel and around the south coast
My most memorable experiences are guiding a party across the Haute Route from Chamonix to Zermatt and climbing the Orion Face Direct on Ben Nevis.
